About Zipit
________________________________________________________
Zipping is a method of file compression used to reduce
the size of files and combine many files into one.
Zipping is mainly used to reduce the time it takes to
"transfer many files over modem. However, compression can "
be used to store data for later use. The most popular
compression program to date is PKZip by PKWare.
My objective in creating this program is to provide the
ability to perform the functions of PKZip without learning
"the syntax of the program. Running under windows, Zipit "
provides you with the added luxury of not having to exit to
Dos or Open a Dos window.
I hope you enjoy this program and please support your
shareware authors. Many hours are devoted to providing
products of quality at a low cost.

Zip File Name:
"Use the drive box, directory box and file box to build the "
path and name of your zip file. If a zip file that already
"exists is chosen, files that are to be zipped will be added to "
"that file without overwriting already existing files. That is,"
the information already stored in the zip file will
"not be deleted. If a new file is to be created, use the "
drive box and directory box to build your zip file name and
then type in the name of the new zip file in the input box.
The default file mask is set to '*.zip'. If you wish to see
"a different group of files, just type over the mask. "
"To create a sub directory of the current directory, push the "
create directory button. A dialog for keyboard entry will
be presented. Enter a valid directory name.
Files To Zip:
"To choose the files to be added to you zip file, choose the "
drive and directory and the files. Many files can be chosen
by holding the left mouse button down and dragging the mouse.
The Ctrl key will allow single files to be marked and unmarked
and the Shift key will allow the choice of many files between
two that are marked. A sort gives the choice of ordering the
files by name or extension.
"To choose all files within a single directory, click on the"
'Tag All' check box. All files will be highlighted.
Zip Options:
Recurse Sub directory will cause the current directory of files
"to be tagged. When the files are zipped, all files in sub"
directories will be zipped.
Store Directory Information will save the directory information
"with the files. When these files are unzipped, the files will be "
put into their original directories.
"To initiate the zipping process, click on the 'Zip It' button. A Dos"
window will open and the files will be zipped. When the window
"reads 'Inactive' at the top, close it by double clicking on the"
control box in the upper left hand corner.
Unzip
___________________________________________________________________
From:
"All files with the Zip extension will be shown in the list box"
"located under the word 'from'. Choose a file to unzip. Use "
"the drive box to switch to an alternate drive. If you wish to"
"choose a file that does not have an extension of Zip, change"
"the mask value."
To:
Choose the directory where files will be written to with the drive
box and directory box under the 'To' label. To create a new
"directory for expanded files, click on the 'New Directory' button."
Use the 'Unzip It' button to unzip the chosen file.
Delete Files:
Files may be deleted at any time from the Unzip window. Clicking on
the 'Delete File' button from the main menu will cause the currently selected
file to be removed.
Unzip Options:
Choose 'Create Stored Directories' to place zipped files into their
correct directories. It is recommended that the destination
directory be the root directory.
Choose 'Overwrite Existing Files' to automatically erase any files
that may already exist in the destination directory.
Viewing File Contents:
It is possible to view the contents of zipped files before actually unzipping it.
Choose Unzip from the main menu. The main menu is the window with
two zipper icons. Select a file to unzip. Choose 'View Zip File' from the
File menu option. A window will open showing the contents of the zipped
"file. When the window says 'Inactive' at the top, it may be closed."
